As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. As a Spatial Resource Analyst with the Forest Management and Wildfire Mitigation Branch (FMWMB) and Forestry Division (FD), you will be at the forefront of forest management innovation. This is more than a technical role—it is a chance to apply your advanced GIS expertise to solve real-world challenges and shape the sustainable management of our province’s natural assets. As a Spatial Resource Analyst, you will develop sophisticated GIS scripts and models as well as providing expert spatial data management services. You will play a pivotal role in transforming complex data into actionable insights, supporting the broader goals of forest management and environmental stewardship. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of diverse projects, exercise a high level of independence, and work at the leading edge of geospatial technology in natural resource management. Your work will directly inform departmental decision making and help maintain the integrity of the province's environmental data.

 

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing SDD submissions and overseeing spatial data systems to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Advanced expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data management coding and scripting using Python, FME or similar tools.
  • Delivering high-quality, timely geospatial services and solutions to internal clients.
  • Collaborating on the creation of data, process, and application standards aligned with industry best practices.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

University graduation in GIS Technology (or equivalent )in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience or a 2 year diploma in GIS Technology and 4 years progressively responsible related experience.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. 

 

Special Requirements:

  • Advanced expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data management coding and scripting using Python, FME or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in developing complex models and databases using a suite of analytical tools. 
  • Demonstrated experience applying geospatial technology to natural resource or land management.
  • Solid understanding of forest management practices and regulatory frameworks.

 

Assets:

  • Experience working in government or public sector organizations.
  • Familiarity with industry data standards and best practices for spatial analysis.
  • Background in environmental science, forestry, or natural resource management.

Notes

This is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
