Elections Alberta is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections and referenda. We administer the Election Act and the provincial electoral process in this province. Our mission is to serve Albertans as an independent election management body committed to the administration of modern, transparent, and accessible democratic processes that ensure the integrity and enhance the value of Alberta’s electoral system.
Role Responsibilities
The Social Media and Communications Consultant supports the delivery of the office's internal and external communication and public relations activities. This includes managing social media and content creation, collaborating with vendors for advertising campaigns, creating informative website content, and producing Elections Alberta publications such as annual reports and event materials in both print and digital formats.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing and conveying meaningful information to Albertans. You will apply your strategic communication skills to ensure that key messages are consistent, clear, and easily understood by the general public.
With your creativity and attention to detail, you will deliver highly professional graphic, digital and print design services supporting brand and communication strategies and objectives. You will create engaging, informative, and visually appealing content, including photos, videos, graphic illustrations, infographics, and other visual assets for use in print and digital media, supporting your outstanding writing and editing. You will support positioning Elections Alberta as the trusted source of election and democratic process participation information in Alberta.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in visual communication design, graphic design, media, marketing, communications, or a related field is required plus a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience in managing social media, designing visual assets, and writing and editing professional communications. (Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.)
- Training and experience in graphic design is required.
- Experience in video development and editing is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent working knowledge of social media management, software, strategies, analytics, and platforms.
- Strong working knowledge and application of communications planning and web communications.
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe tools including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat and other graphic design software to create visual assets.
- Well-developed writing and editing skills (e.g. articulate, clear, concise, grammatically correct).
- Ability to assimilate knowledge of legislation and procedures to develop effective messaging.
- Excellent verbal communication skills for interaction with stakeholders and the media, as well as strong presentation delivery skills.
- Strong project management, time management and organizational skills to help manage and support multiple projects.
- Ability to identify emerging trends, issues and other developments or opportunities that may impact the Office's response and/or direction on an issue.

This position is exempt from the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
