LEGISLATIVE OFFICE
Office of the Auditor General
With a calling to the accounting profession, you are not satisfied simply crunching the numbers. You embrace accountability for results, both for yourself and for others, especially institutions and individuals entrusted with serving the public.
You are confident, directed, and passionate about people and issues that affect them. You thrive in an environment that demands both creative and analytical thinking. You love Alberta, and you feel destined to do work that has an impact on the lives of Albertans today and into the future.
WHO WE ARE
We are an office of 150 people mandated by the Auditor General Act to examine and report publicly on the Government of Alberta’s management of the public resources entrusted to it. We report directly to the 87 Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and through them, we serve approximately five million people who call Alberta home. We are a CPA training office.
WHAT WE DO
We are the auditors of the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Province of Alberta and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds. We audit so that we can report on how well the government is managing its responsibilities and the province’s resources. We provide independent assurance to the people of Alberta that public money is properly accounted for and provides value.
Working with us, you gain unparalleled experience working with provincial government departments, universities and colleges, healthcare services, financial institutions, and research and investment organizations.
ROLE
If you are an experienced accounting and audit professional looking to take your career to the next level—and you are passionate about improving the performance of and confidence in the Alberta public service—then consider becoming a Senior Staff Auditor with the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta!

As a Senior Staff Auditor with practical experience—either at or nearing your designation—you will work independently and in team environments. You will apply your project management skills and exercise your strong critical thinking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your technical expertise, coupled with effective communication skills, will lead to your success as you perform moderately complex audits, build relationships, obtain knowledge of the auditee’s business, and provide coaching and mentorship to junior CPA students.
Applying your audit experience, you will contribute to the planning, execution, and reporting of your assigned audit projects that focus on the Government of Alberta’s management control systems and processes used to deliver programs and services to Albertans. In addition to performance (value-for-money) audits, you will also audit the Government of Alberta’s financial statements, where you will develop your analytical aptitude for computer-assisted auditing techniques and gain exposure to data analytics in auditing.
