Role Responsibilities

Are you a seasoned project manager ready to make a meaningful impact? Join Children and Family Services (CFS) Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) and help drive strategic initiatives that improve outcomes for children, families, and communities across Alberta.

As a Senior Project Management Specialist, you will lead high-impact projects and service improvement initiatives aligned with the Ministry’s highest strategic priorities. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in non-technical project environments such as non-profit, business transformation, policy implementation, or organizational change.

What You will do:

•    Pro-actively lead, manage and support complex, cross-functional projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Strong planning, analytical, issues management and consultative skills are required.
•    Provide experience-based expert advice and leadership in best project management practices, tools, and methodologies for complex social projects/change initiatives.
•    Develop and implement change management strategies and tools to support successful project outcomes.
•    Engage with key stakeholders to identify and analyze barriers, promote solutions and support the desired change effect.
•    Mentor, coach, and lead development opportunities for Ministry colleagues to build project and change management capacity across the Ministry.
•    Contribute to continuous improvement of OPM and PPMO services, including performance measurement, benefits realization, and integration of alternative methodologies.
•    Support operational needs of the unit and Strategic Planning and Operations branch, including procurement, resource acquisition, onboarding, internal engagement, and adoption of innovative practices.
•    Excellent time management skills to meet strict deadlines and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential in this role. 
•    Excellent English communicating, writing and presentation skills are required daily.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

Requirements:


University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

 

 
Equivalencies: 
Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

The following will be considered assets:

-    Experience or training in business or project analysis, change management, process development. 
-    Ability to articulate or visually depict complex concepts. 
-    Experience in public sector or community-based project environments.
-    Experience managing large volumes of complex information and providing recommendations.
-    Prior strategic planning and program development.
-    Strong technical skills with M365, SharePoint, and PM tools.
-    Knowledge and understanding of GoA and Ministry specific policies, guidelines, directives and acts/regulations.
-    Candidates must have training and/or professional designation in Project Management.

Notes

Hours of work are Monday to Friday – 36.25 hours per week.

Position office is in downtown Edmonton. In-office work is required a minimum 3 days/week.
