Within Advanced Education, the Skilled Trades and Partnerships (STP) division delivers programs and services to ensure Alberta remains a destination of choice for professionals and a leader in apprenticeship and skilled trades education. The division is responsible for providing apprenticeship education, skilled trades certification, and foundational learning programs to Albertans to ensure our province has a skilled workforce to support a thriving and diverse economy.

Role Responsibilities
The Ministry of Advanced Education has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Senior Program Coordinator to join our team!
Reporting to the Manager, Program Implementation, this position leads multiple large and complex program development and implementation projects, which are focused on supporting Alberta’s economic growth and future skill development needs. You will maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote collaboration and ensure coordinated information sharing and integrated decision‑making to support Alberta’s strategic priorities for apprenticeship education and skilled trades programming.
You will play a lead role in delivery of Advanced Education’s Industry Pathways initiative, which involves collaborating with industry stakeholders to develop and implement new apprenticeship education programs, industry training programs, and designated trades in Alberta.
Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Advanced project management and process development knowledge and skills to realize grants, contracts and educational programs and services.
- Experienced in leading the design and redesign of programs and services through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience with educational program development, implementation and management principles and methods, change management and approaches, stakeholder engagement, and workforce development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build relationships, consult and work with program areas on a variety of projects, and to provide advice to business units on program development and implementation.
- Well-developed critical thinking and analytical skills to actively assess challenges, opportunities, impacts, and risks presented in projects and provide input and recommendations to the Manager and Director related to the ongoing enhancement of the Division's policies and operational programs and processes.
- Strong ability to develop clear/concise written reports, briefings, letters, executive summaries, action requests, presentations, etc.
- Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and able to meet tight timelines.
- A demonstrated growth mindset with ability to collaborate effectively and integrate ongoing feedback to iteratively refine deliverables, programs, and processes.
- Agility to adapt quickly to changing direction and priorities across multiple subject matters simultaneously.
- Acts as a coach to junior colleagues in the development of their project management documents.
- Serve as Acting Manager as needed.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience in a related field such as political science, public policy, public administration, Business, or Education or Equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

- Knowledge and experience working with industry stakeholders to develop and implement education, certification, and work-integrated learning programs.
- Knowledge and experience working with educational programs and services focused on achieving labour market outcomes.
- Advanced project management knowledge and skills, along with experience leading projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of government contract and grant management policies and procedures.
- Well-developed critical thinking and analytical skills to actively assess challenges, opportunities, impacts, and risks presented in projects.
- Knowledge of Government and department strategic and policy directions as they relate to the division programs and services.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, making appropriate decisions and taking action where required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively build relationships, consult and work with program areas on a variety of projects, and to provide advice to business units on program development and implementation.

Position is located in Edmonton and works 36.25 hours per week, 8:15am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
