Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Intergovernmental (IGR) & Cross-Ministry Strategy, the Senior Policy and Intergovernmental (IGR) Advisor leads and/or contributes to projects that significantly impact the direction of the department.
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Policy and IGR Advisor include:
• Lead coordination of Federal/Provincial/Territorial activities related to the department's economic agenda including efforts to secure investment-enabling federal support.
• Collaborate and coordinate with teams across the department to support policy and investment initiatives.
• Lead strategic initiatives and provide facilitation services for teams across the department.
• Develop and support strategic initiatives and policy projects that are focused on addressing economic challenges facing Alberta.
• Strengthen departmental capacity and support the unit and division to accomplish operational goals.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field (Political Science, Commerce, Economic Development preferred), plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The position requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Thorough understanding of the Canadian federal system of government and Canadian intergovernmental relations environment, and awareness of jurisdictional issues, emerging issues and current events impacting intergovernmental relations.
• Extensive experience with policy development and knowledge of government decision-making processes, including experience preparing and providing options analysis, briefings and presentations.
• Proven ability to establish positive working relationships and demonstrated success in managing complex issues within short timelines.
• Excellent interpersonal and team skills with the ability to lead/coordinate activities of a team to achieve the desired ends and participate as an effective team member.
• Superior project management experience, including setting and meeting timelines, and delivering results.
• Capacity to provide original analysis and creative thought in the development of strategic options and policy recommendations.
• Strong verbal communication skills and ability to write in a clear and succinct manner.
• Strategic thinking and synthesizing, conceptual and analytical skills.
Assets:
• Experience with strategic planning and facilitation.
• Strong understanding of investment principles and Canada’s federal investment ecosystem, including key programs, incentives, and coordination mechanisms across government and industry to facilitate and attract investment-driven economic growth.
• Experience in intergovernmental negotiations or stakeholder engagement at the Federal-Provincial-Territory (FPT) level.
• Political acumen and a thorough understanding of government decision making processes in order to adequately advise and support the Manger, Director, Executive Director and Assistant Deputy Minister, and provide strategic advice on a range of economic issues to cross-ministry partners and external stakeholders.

Notes
We are currently hiring for one full time permanent position. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (36.25 hours/week).
Work location is in Commerce Place,10155 102 Street, Edmonton.
