Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families and communities,and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. This ministry supports Albertans through a person-centred, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families. The ministry also provides oversight for the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.

Role Responsibilities

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference on matters relating to the aging population and Alberta’s seniors? If so, the Seniors Strategic Planning Branch is looking for you to join their team!
 

The Seniors Strategic Planning Branch (within Seniors Division) promotes programs, policies, and initiatives to address social isolation, elder abuse, older workers, ageism, transportation needs, and aging well in community for older Albertans. In addition, the division is responsible for community-based seniors serving sector development, administering community grants, supporting collaboration with stakeholders, and providing input on cross-ministry policies and programs to support seniors from a government wide perspective.
 

As Senior Policy Analyst, you will be responsible for leading strategic policy development activities related to seniors and Alberta’s aging population. This will involve:
 

  • Supporting the alignment of research, policy, program, and community initiatives across government that support the independence and well-being of Alberta seniors.
  • Working strategically with internal and external stakeholders to advance the outcomes related to the business plan and minister’s priorities.
  • Designing, planning, managing, and evaluating projects, including grant and contract management.
  • Conducting in-depth policy analysis and coordinating program and policy related cross-government and interdepartmental initiatives that support Alberta’s seniors.
  • Drafting briefings, conducting research, and preparing reports on specific policy topics.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Degree in a related field such as social sciences, humanities, public policy etc. 
Minimum of 4 years’ progressive experience in research and/or policy development.
 

Equivalency: One year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.
 

University graduation in a related field, such as Social Sciences and Public Administration, supplemented by 4 years progressively responsible related experience in research and/or policy development or equivalent as described below.
 

Assets:

  • Experience supporting full cycle project management of complex projects including diverse stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience preparing reports, briefings and/or presentations providing recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience or awareness of trends and current issues related to older adults and the aging population.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to achieve common outcomes.
  • Experience working with policies, legislations, acts, and/or regulations.
  • Post graduate degree in a related field.
     

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
 

Equivalency:
 

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Notes

This competition will be used to fill 2 permanent, full-time positions working 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
