Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families and communities,and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. This ministry supports Albertans through a person-centred, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families. Role Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Director, Assisted Living Alberta Service Delivery Transformation, the Senior Policy Analyst provides leadership, policy analysis and advice on strategic policy development and integration in the six policy domains under the strategic mandate of the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS). The Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for project management and advanced policy and program work associated with the development, review, evaluation, and implementation of provincial SCSS policy and programs.  


Senior Policy Analyst position requires a high level of creativity, innovation, independent research and ability to identify implications define issues and develop creative and appropriate solutions. This position will provide leadership in support of government and ministry priorities and in the development of forward looking, innovative social policy infrastructure that is relevant, integrated and sustainable. 


This position will carry following responsibilities:

  • Undertakes strategic policy development based on high- profile government and ministry priorities.
  • Undertakes policy research and analysis to support the ongoing work of SCSS and the GoA.
  • Explores and presents strategic policy directions (foresight) on emerging or innovative policy approaches to address key SCSS policy challenges and questions.
  • Supports strategic policy integration activities and initiatives to ensure SCSS programs are appropriately aligned and integrated within and across ministry policy domains.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with program policy leaders, GoA Ministry partners, key stakeholders to ensure effective policy development and implementation.

Qualifications

 

A University degree in social sciences or a related field plus 4 years of progressively responsible related experience is required; or equivalent as described below. 


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

 

Successful candidate needs to have the following attributes:

 

  • In depth knowledge of policy development and decision-making processes within the Government of Alberta.
  • Expert knowledge of issues pertaining to strategic policy within the Government of Alberta.
  • In depth knowledge of policies, legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation processes and research methodologies.
  • Knowledge and skill set for data analysis, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Excellent project management organizational skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team and the ability to manage multiple projects.

This competition will be used to fill two full-time temporary positions, duration is 2 years. 

 

Hours of work:  Monday – Friday, 8:15 am -4:30 pm (36.25 hours/week)
