The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and compliance to policy, legislation, and standards, for addiction and mental health services, as well as proactive monitoring of substance use and mental health data to support system planning. 
 
The Ministry works with service providers and community partners, including Indigenous partners, to design and enhance a coordinated community-based addiction and mental health care system, leveraging policy and practice innovations and research and evaluation to enable the best possible outcomes for Albertans. 
 
The Ministry works closely with other cross-ministry partners, external organizations, other Canadian provinces, and the Government of Canada to plan addiction and mental health service delivery.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for several functions that shape and inform the direction and priorities of the provincial addiction and mental health system, including related policy and strategy development and implementation, evaluation, and reporting. 

Responsibilities include
 

  1. Cultivate and sustain respectful, productive relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, other ministries, other jurisdictions and diverse stakeholders across Alberta to support collaborative and solutions-driven outcomes.
  2. Manage multiple grants to support innovation across the addiction and mental health system in Alberta (e.g., funding research, pilot testing new models of care or service delivery improvements, building integration frameworks). 
  3. Lead the coordinated development of plans and reports to reflect achievements across broad provincial priorities for the addiction and mental health system and department business goals.
  4. Lead coordinated issues management functions including identification, response development, and tracking to support and inform the system' s advancement on its priorities.
  5. Complete research and policy analysis to inform addiction and mental health policy and strategy development and implementation to best support Indigenous people and communities.
  6. Support branch leaders in achieving the mandate and goals of the branch and unit


In this role, you will leverage your knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures and communities, while applying your political acumen and strong communication skills, to help navigate and support decisions affecting Indigenous people in Alberta as it relates to mental health and addiction. Qualifications

University degree in a related field (health, human services, social sciences or public administration) and four (4) years of related experience


Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets
 

  • Experience in Indigenous health or social services, and/or addiction and mental health related experience are assets. 
  • Grant management and/or project management experience is an asset

  • 8:15 am to 4:30 pm (Monday to Friday)
