The Ministry of Indigenous Relations works with Indigenous communities, the federal government, industry and other stakeholders to support strong, vibrant Indigenous communities and people who fully participate in a prosperous, competitive and diverse Alberta.

The Strategic Engagement and Policy Innovation (SEPI) branch is part of the Consultation, Land and Policy (CLP) division in Indigenous Relations. SEPI provides a strong foundation of policy development, strategic engagement, consultation capacity development, expert advice and relationship-building through education, training, and capacity funding.

SEPI staff work with staff throughout the Ministry and the rest of the Government of Alberta to ensure that Indigenous-related policies are informed by Indigenous input and that engagement and consultation best practices are used, to meet the Ministry’s mandate to advance reconciliation.

Role Responsibilities

You'll research and analyze data and emerging trends in Indigenous economic, social, and governance policies. Your role will involve coordinating policy development and information sharing within the department and across ministries, providing strategic advice on policy options, and assisting in forecasting future trends. As the senior policy analyst, you assist with leading the team in accomplishing branch goals.

Qualifications

4 years University graduation in a related field (e.g., Public Policy, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, or History) plus 4 years progressively responsible experience in policy development. 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or  
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Required:

  • Experience in conducting research, performing analysis, writing and developing policies.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively.


Assets:

  • Understanding of governance structure, and decision-making processes.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, governance, organizations, communities, and culture.
  • Awareness of national and global policy developments, data, trends, and legislation relevant to Indigenous policy.

  • 7.25 daily hours
  • 36.25 weekly hours
  • 8:15AM to 4:30PM (Monday to Friday)
