Role Responsibilities

 

The Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance is looking for multiple Senior Manager, Audit positions.


Are you a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), with experience in audit, tax administration and the oil and gas industry? Do you have knowledge of Alberta's tax and royalty regimes and enjoy challenging work? The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division is looking for Senior Managers for our Audit team. We are an enthusiastic, goal-orientated and knowledgeable team – join us! 

 

Reporting to a Director in the Audit branch, you will have overall responsibility for leading the activities of an audit team in the day-to-day administration of various acts and related Regulations and Guidelines. The Senior Manager is responsible for leading a team of professional audit staff in the audit and enforcement of a variety of programs. The Senior Manager is also responsible for the development and delivery of audit plans and to identify and determine mitigation strategies for managing risks. 

 

Job Responsibilities

You will be involved in business planning, quality assurance, monthly status reporting and resource allocation based on prioritized risk assessment. Your strong knowledge of legislation, problem-solving and supervisory skills will enable you to manage day-to-day operations and staff performance and development ensuring that tax and resource revenue is complete, accurate and fairly valued. You will utilize your strong interpersonal and consultation skills when you participate on internal and external committees with other branches and departments, on resolution of common issues.  

 

You will be challenged to demonstrate creativity and innovation in identifying audit efficiencies and adapting to changing environments in Alberta's tax and royalty programs. As a Senior Manager, you will also be responsible for identifying potential regulatory or policy issues, as well as providing comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations to the Director and Executive Director.

 

You must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to prioritize, to ensure you are meeting tight timelines. You will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be able to articulate and present complex issues to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and interpretative skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy will assist you in this role. The ability to build collaborative environments by establishing positive working relationships and managing multiple assignments simultaneously is key.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant designation is required, supplemented by four years progressively responsible experience in audit, accounting, taxation or royalty administration is also required.

 

Assets:

  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and techniques
  • Experience managing/supervising others
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s corporate or commodity tax provisions
  • Completion of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting programs
  • Experience working with provincial tax and royalty legislation

Notes

 

These positions include two permanent full-time positions, and one full-time two-year position with the possibility of permanent appointment, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. These positions will be located at Government Centre, Edmonton.
