Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Planning and Reporting, this position works in a team environment to develop innovative and timely strategies; solutions to complex transportation investment needs; and provides leadership, strategic analysis and recommendations related to the development of the department's annual Capital Plan submission and Construction Program as well as the Operating submission to support the Government of Alberta’s goals.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Support and develop Investment Planner(s) on the Government of Alberta's and Transportation and Economic Corridors operating and capital planning processes and to build-up the knowledge and expertise within the Capital Planning and Program Management section.
•    Provide support and input to comprehensive strategic investment plans and business cases developed and approved by government.
•    Developing and updating strategic transportation plans that support the government's and the ministry's goals.

Qualifications

Required: 
University education in Business, Engineering, Economics or related field PLUS 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
•    1 years of education for 1 year of experience; or
•    1 year of experience for 1 year education 
 

The successful candidate MUST also have:
•    Experience working with public sector budgetary, project delivery or capital planning process
•    Working knowledge of public sector capital planning and financial reporting processes
•    Understanding of Benefit Cost Ratio Analysis
•    Advanced skills and knowledge of Excel and Power BI
 

Assets:

•    Experience working with and merging multiple large datasets, while maintaining high attention to detail
•    Ability to adapt to changing priorities quickly and collaborate with department staff to pivot as required
•    Good analytical skills to identify root causes of a problem and/ or inefficient processes and provide innovative solutions 
•    Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to summarize complex data into a user-friendly format
