Role Responsibilities
The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration is seeking a highly motivated and analytical professional to join the Investment Opportunity Evaluation team. Reporting to the Manager, Investment Opportunity Analysis, the Senior Investment Opportunity Analyst plays a key role in supporting Alberta's investment attraction objectives by evaluating investment opportunities, engaging with investors, coordinating stakeholders, and providing strategic advice that supports economic growth and job creation.
This position works closely with internal and external partners, including government departments, municipalities, Invest Alberta Corporation, industry associations, and prospective investors to help attract, retain, and expand investment opportunities across Alberta.
Responsibilities
As the Senior Investment Opportunity Analyst, you will:
- Evaluate investment opportunities through financial analysis, industry research, and economic assessment.
- Assess financial statements and determine the financial viability of investment proposals.
- Prepare briefing notes, reports, recommendations, presentations, and options analysis for senior leadership and ministers.
- Engage with potential investors and stakeholders to support informed investment decisions.
- Provide investment aftercare services to existing investors and identify retention opportunities.
- Monitor investment trends, industry developments, and economic conditions impacting Alberta.
- Coordinate collaboration across Alberta's investment attraction ecosystem, including government and external partners.
- Develop and improve data collection, tracking, reporting, and evaluation processes.
- Support evidence-based decision-making through research and data analysis.
- Lead and coordinate projects in support of strategic investment attraction initiatives.

Qualifications
A University graduation in a related field; and 4 years of progressive related experience ; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Business Development, or a related field.
- Experience in investment attraction, economic development, business development, government coordination, or related fields.
- Experience conducting financial analysis and evaluating financial statements.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, recommendations, presentations, and options analysis.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, consultation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working collaboratively across government, industry, and partner organizations.
- Knowledge of economic development principles and investment attraction practices.
Assets
- Experience evaluating investment, business expansion, or economic development proposals.
- Experience developing performance measurement, reporting, or data management systems.
- Experience in policy or program assessment.
- Experience supporting senior executives or ministers through briefing materials and strategic advice.
- Knowledge of Alberta's investment attraction ecosystem.
- Advanced financial analysis skills.
