Role Responsibilities
The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst.
The Senior Financial Analyst (ALA) plays a critical role in supporting the financial accountability and transparency of the Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) entity by analyzing and advising to ensure financial reports are in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards. Assisted Living Alberta is a $4 billion+ provincial health agency in Alberta, launched on April 1, 2025, to improve and integrate continuing care, home care, and community care systems for seniors, people with disabilities, and vulnerable Albertans. This role centers on the development of processes that analyze, assess, and investigate, solutions to financial reporting issues impacting ALA. Success in this position requires a deep understanding and expertise of PSAB and implementing Auditor General recommendations. The incumbent must consistently apply robust analytical practices, demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively communicate in an environment where objectives may be ambiguous and timelines are tight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitors the accuracy of financial information, investigates variances and provides financial advice relating to ALA financial reports and briefing information.
- Works with ALA Financial Reporting staff to confirm and reconcile ALA related party transactions with other ministries.
- Examining, analyzing and interpreting complex financial data and making recommendations for improvements to enhance reliability of financial information.
- Provides advice on ALA working papers, financial information, notes, schedules and finance templates for quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Reviews year-end working papers to support the financial templates and ministry financial information to ensure accuracy.
- Reviews financial information for business case development for major ALA initiatives and coordinates ad hoc financial information requests from management with the ALA Financial Reporting team.
- Examining, analyzing and interpreting complex financial data and making recommendations for improvements to enhance the reliability of information in the financial statements.
- Liaising with the ALSS and ALA Financial Reporting teams around the consolidation of ALA's financial data into the Ministry of ALSS.

Qualifications
Required:
- University degree in a related field plus 5 years progressively responsible related experience. Equivalences maybe considered.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA)
Assets:
- Experience and in-depth knowledge of financial reporting, financial administration and financial modeling processes.
- Experience in analyzing and interpreting complex financial data.
- Ability to make recommendations for improvements to enhance the reliability of information in the financial statements.
- Proficiency in the use of financial software (e.g. Excel, SAP/1GX, etc.)
- Supervisory experience.
