As part of the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division, the Strategic Policy and Planning branch provides strategic and integrated policy and project services for the department of Justice on a wide range of programs and services under department legislation.

Role Responsibilities

The Strategic Policy and Engagement Unit has an exciting opportunity available for policy professionals looking to leverage their skills in a dynamic and complex environment.

As the Senior Policy and Engagement Analyst, you will report to the Manager of Strategic Policy & Engagement. The Strategic Policy and Engagement Team supports internal and external stakeholder engagement and related project management and policy development activities to support strategic initiatives across the Ministry of Justice. As the Senior Engagement Analyst, you will require effective coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills to respond to sensitive, diverse, and complex issues pertaining to the justice system. 

As the Senior Policy and Engagement Analyst you will be:
 

  • Conducting research and policy analysis of relevant information to provide strategic advice and options on a number of major policy initiatives that support the Department’s strategic directions for the justice system.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, to plan, oversee, analyze, and coordinate implementation of high priority Justice policies and projects.
  • Working directly with department experts on engagement activities required to support legislative and policy priorities. 
  • Leading the development of strategic engagement plans to support ministry and government priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field.
  • 4 years related policy experience. 
     

Assets:

  • Experience writing reports, briefings, policy documents and cabinet reports, and/or presentations with recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience with government systems, policy cycle and policy approval processes.
  • Experience supporting or leading engagement activities including drafting strategic engagement plans and developing engagement materials.
  • Experience planning, leading and facilitating meetings with internal and external stakeholders. 


The following equivalencies may be considered:
 

  • A related Masters plus a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • A related two-year diploma plus a minimum of 6 years related experience.
  • A related one-year certificate plus a minimum of 7 years related experience.
  • No post-secondary education plus a minimum of 11 years related experience.

  • Full time permanent position located in the Oxbridge Place, Edmonton.
  • Hours of work: 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
