Role Responsibilities

The Motor Vehicles Modernization Unit of the Traffic Safety Services Division is looking for a Senior Data Analyst. This position directly reports to the Manager of Motor Vehicle Modernization.

As the Senior Data Analyst for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors’ Motor Vehicle Modernization Project, you will be the team’s authority on data architecture, governance, and advanced analytics. This position works alongside Senior Policy and Business Analysts to redesign how motor-vehicle and traffic-safety data are captured, shared, and leveraged across Driver Services, Carrier Services, and Traffic Safety programs.

The responsibilities of these roles include:

  • Leading complex projects using advanced statistical methods to extract actionable insights and inform policy decisions.
  • Designing and maintaining interactive dashboards and reporting systems for performance measurement and decision-making.
  • Utilizing predictive modeling and machine learning to forecast trends, assess risks, and optimize program delivery.
  • Implementing data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and consistency across systems.
  • Providing data-driven insights for policy development and evaluate the effectiveness of traffic safety programs.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to design evaluation frameworks and conduct cost-benefit analyses.
  • Presenting findings using data visualization and storytelling techniques to communicate insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Intelligence, Analytics or a related field, supplemented by at least four (4) years progressively related experience.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools and reporting platforms to create interactive dashboards and reports.
  • Experience with statistical modelling.

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.

 

Assets:

  • Advanced data-visualization & storytelling (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Expert SQL and database querying across relational / NoSQL stores
  • Dimensional & relational data-modeling / architecture design
  • ETL pipeline design and orchestration (e.g., Azure Data Factory, SSIS)
  • Statistical analysis & predictive modelling with Python or R
  • Data governance, quality and metadata management frameworks
  • Cloud analytics platform expertise (Azure Synapse, Databricks or similar)
  • Business-intelligence solution & KPI dashboard development
  • Clear communication of insights to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative, agile delivery mindset with peer review & feedback culture
