1GX Center of Excellence (CoE) manages and oversees the performance of the Government of Alberta’s (GoA) enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, 1GX. The Government of Alberta’s core corporate financial and human resources information management system supports the management and reporting of enterprise-wide financial and human resource activities. Built on an integrated ERP suite, the system includes General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Budgeting, Purchasing, Human Resources, Payroll, Benefits Administration, Supply Chain Management (SCM), and Employee Self-Service.

Reporting to the Manager of Operations Finance, the Senior Business Analyst provides expert analysis and project leadership in support of 1GX operations and the production environment. This role is recognized as a subject matter expert within one functional domain—Human Capital Management (HCM)/Payroll, Finance, or Supply Chain Management (SCM)—and plays a key role in ensuring system stability, performance, and continuous improvement.

The Senior Business Analyst leads and supports system enhancements, scheduled upgrades, and the review of system change orders and service requests. Working closely with business stakeholders, the role translates complex business needs into comprehensive requirements that inform effective solutions. The position also collaborates closely with the system integrator, Accenture, and provides timely updates to both business and technology stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership, coordination, and support for the analysis, configuration, design, testing, quality assurance, and implementation of new system releases, modules, and functionality.
  • Acting as the senior liaison to ensure system changes are reviewed, assessed, and governed in alignment with government, ILO, and ministry business plans, policies, and standards.
  • Providing expert support for issue resolution within the 1GX production environment.
  • Developing, recommending, and implementing process improvements aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Proactively engaging stakeholders—including system users, business communities (HCM, Payroll, Finance, SCM), and service managers—to assess impacts, address issues, and ensure business needs are met.
  • Providing project management and leadership for large, complex initiatives from inception through completion.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University graduation in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4 years of related experience in finance industry.
  • Experience with accounting and/or budgeting in large organizations or public sector will be preferred.

Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

  • Certified Business Analyst Professional designation and/or Project Management Professional designation.
  • Experience in SAP/S4 HANA Modules: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Projects, Budget Planning and Forecasting. Technical knowledge and experience in Concur.
  • Experience in BPC (Business Planning and Consolidations) and/or One Stream.
  • Solid understanding of accounting, budgeting and audit processes, controls, and trails.
  • Experience in project management principles, methodologies, processes, and best practices.
  • Project planning, monitoring, and management skills, with a focus on process design and transition management.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
  • Experience in the business domain within the relevant stream and of the business processes and practices within the stream (HCM, Payroll & Benefits, Finance and/or Supply Chain Management).
  • Experience in system design, including business process requirements with consideration for cost, audit requirements and practicality.
  • Knowledge of change management, systems development, and information management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the governing legislation, policies, and related business applications that support the branch’s activities.
  • Demonstrated experience with, or a strong willingness to adopt, AI-enabled tools to streamline workflows, enhance reporting efficiency, and support more informed, data-driven decision-making.

Term of Employment:  Temporary full-time position (1 year) with a possibility of extension.
