Role Responsibilities

The Information Services Team is on the lookout for an exceptional Senior Analyst to join our ranks. In this crucial role, you will leverage your extensive experience to analyze complex data sets, generate strategic insights, and drive data-informed decision-making across the ministry. The ideal candidate is adept with data analysis tools, possesses unparalleled problem-solving abilities, and excels at clearly communicating these findings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Intelligence & Data Management: Develop and implement strategies to expand and enhance the ministry’s data assets, ensuring security, quality control, and adherence to Government of Alberta policies.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting: Conduct comprehensive data analysis, create performance metrics, and design interactive dashboards and reports to support evidence-based decision-making
  • Project Management & Leadership: Lead data projects, mentor junior team members, and guide working groups to establish data standards and improve reporting processes.
  • Communication & Training: Develop and deliver training programs, presentations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Translate complex data insights into clear, actionable information for stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

University degree in Business Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Accounting/Business or Public Administration, supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. 

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets:

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, business plans and strategic initiatives of the Ministry, including but not limited to the Municipal Government Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Supplementary Accounting Principles and Standards Regulation, and the Municipal Census Regulation.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, M, DAX, SQL, and VBA, alongside expertise in querying Oracle Databases, coupled with extensive experience in utilizing MS Office Programs (e.g., Excel, Access) to support data analysis and reporting functions.
  • General awareness of the elements and structure of municipal financial statements and general accounting functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methodologies, statistical systems applications (e.g., SAS, Power BI) to analyze data and generate insights.
  • Familiar with research methodology, change management strategies, systems thinking, and processes for evaluation and knowledge dissemination to ensure robust data analysis.
  • Familiarity with key municipal stakeholders and a comprehensive understanding of associated financial, statistical, census and election data.
  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta IT Management policies and procedures, Ministry IT policies and procedures.

This position is a permanent position with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
