The Resource Stewardship Division plays a central role in managing Alberta’s natural resources through science-based planning, policy development, and regulatory oversight. It ensures the sustainable use and protection of Alberta’s land, water, and biodiversity by integrating environmental data, supporting conservation initiatives, and guiding responsible resource development.

Role Responsibilities

As the Municipal/Industrial Water Data Supervisor, you will lead a team of subject matter experts responsible for managing critical environmental data related to municipal drinking water, wastewater, industrial discharges, and hazardous waste manifests. Your leadership will ensure data quality, regulatory compliance, and support for environmental monitoring and decision-making across Alberta.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of data stewards and technical experts.
  • Oversee data acquisition, validation, storage, and distribution from regulated facilities.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of databases and reporting systems.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders on data use and compliance.
  • Collaborate with policy makers, scientists, and regulatory teams to ensure data supports environmental outcomes.
  • Represent the department on committees and working groups, contributing to system-wide improvements.

Qualifications

Requirements

Education:
A two-year technical diploma in Environmental Sciences, Water Resources Management or a related field.

Experience:
Six years related experience in environmental data management, water resource management, or analytical chemistry.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of department business functions related to water assessment, water program design, water quality project implementation methods, water quality objectives and data interpretation processes
  • Strong understanding of EPEA, related legislation, regulations, policies, standards and guidelines, codes of practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of wastewater and drinking water sample collection methods and scientific standards is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, suite of Microsoft 365 and PowerBI, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and adaptability to learn new technology, as required.

This is a full-time, permanent position located in Edmonton, Alberta. The role requires 36.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
