The Resource Stewardship Division plays a central role in managing Alberta’s natural resources through science-based planning, policy development, and regulatory oversight. It ensures the sustainable use and protection of Alberta’s land, water, and biodiversity by integrating environmental data, supporting conservation initiatives, and guiding responsible resource development.

Role Responsibilities
As a Regulatory Data Specialist, you will be a key member of a dedicated team responsible for managing Alberta’s industrial air quality data and other highly regulated environmental data. Your work will ensure that data submitted by regulated facilities are accurate, accessible, and aligned with environmental legislation and standards. In this role, you will work with advanced data systems, while also contributing to the design, development, and modernization of new digital platforms and enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and validate Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) data submissions.
- Maintain and optimize air quality and other regulated environmental databases.
- Provide expert data validation and data management to support EPA staff and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new data systems and enhancements.
- Support training, compliance, and emergency response initiatives through high-quality data stewardship.

Qualifications
Requirements
Education:
A two-year technical diploma in Environmental Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences or a related field.
Experience:
Four years related experience in environmental data management or atmospheric sciences or environmental sciences.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Knowledge of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) and related legislation, approval processes, regulations, policies and guidelines such as the Air Monitoring Directive and Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) Code which provide monitoring and reporting practices for industry.
- Technical knowledge of air monitoring and reporting standards as they apply to EPEA approval requirements and processes.
- Knowledge of the technology used to capture stack emissions and ambient air quality.
- Working knowledge of SQL, suite of Microsoft 365 and PowerBI, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and adaptability to learn new technology.

This is a full-time, permanent position located in Edmonton, Alberta. The role requires 36.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
