Role Responsibilities

We are hiring a Registered Nurse to work in a 24/7 Provincial Campus Based Care Centres.  You will be responsible to provide nursing and residential support services for in-care youths ages 12 – 17 with complex needs.  This position functions as a supervisor of a unit with residential and support services. 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Responsible for ensuring effective service delivery by planning, implementation of nursing/health services
  • Participate in nursing assessments/interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatment and monitoring/documenting treatment progress
  • Coordinate and deliver staff training on medication administration and preventative health measures
  • Monitoring and creating an atmosphere for the youth based on trauma informed practice standards
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings 
  • Coordinating appropriate nursing and health supports such as labs, pharmacy, medical vendors and community resources.
  • Act as advocate to enhance the quality of life to youths residing at PCBC
  • Liaising with parents, guardians, Child Intervention Practitioners and other service providers 
  • Collaborating with Child Intervention Practitioner, Child and Youth Care Counsellors, Therapists, Addictions Counsellors, Indigenous Specialists and all other leadership at Provincial Campus Based Care sites. 
  • Provide on-call after hours medical consultation to the staff on a rotational basis

Qualifications

Degree in Nursing (RN) and registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) and in good standing plus one year of related experience or Degree in Psychiatric Nursing (RPN) and registered with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) and in good standing with 1-year related experience. 
 

Preference will be given to those who have:

  • Psychiatric Nursing Degree
  • Experience working with and treating youth 
  • Mental Health treatment experience
  • Experience with Addictions
  • Crisis driven care and trauma informed practice
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to utilize time effectively
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism
  • Able to work autonomously and exhibit independent decision making skills
  • Expertise in health emergency and acting expediently
  • Knowledge in the areas of medical and psychiatric assessment; with excellent knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psycho tropic drugs
  • Understanding of and the ability to apply a trauma-informed approach or perspective in practice
  • Skills and expertise in teaching and conducting workshops
  • Excellent consultation skills and the ability to work as a team member

Notes

Hours of Work:  Monday to Friday, 38.75 hours per week (full-time)
 

Pre-employments:

The final candidate for this position will undergo an academic verification check and will be required to provide suitable security screening including Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector and an Intervention Record check. Candidates will provide 2-3 appropriate supervisory references.
