Role Responsibilities

The Rangeland Regulatory Assurance Specialist is responsible for assisting in the application of the Regulatory Assurance Framework (RAF) for Rangelands. This role reports to the Business Information and Analysis Unit Lead.

The incumbent will use systems thinking to assist in evaluating data captured for RAF.   Where necessary create tools, datasets, and data products (spatial and non-spatial) that support regulatory assurance. Using data analytic tools, the Specialist will audit data for completeness and data trends. The Specialist will need to have excellent and creative problem-solving skills to address arising issues.

The Specialist may also provide on-going GIS support of Rangeland datasets. Using ArcGIS Pro the specialist may create datasets, digitize spatial data, and incorporate spatial data into new or existing datasets.

The Specialist will need to have a keen eye for detail and documentation. The incumbent will create documentation for process and applications. The specialist will also develop user manuals and training materials. The Specialist may provide support to staff and public for new tools and applications.

The Rangeland Regulatory Assurance Specialist will take a strategic systems thinking approach to determine how best to stage solutions to complex issues. As the incumbent, you must effectively assess shifting program needs and match with work unit capabilities and priorities. Must be able to demonstrate effective solutions to complex resource management issues at regional and provincial scales. Strong communication skills and effective relationship building abilities are essential.

Qualifications

Required
•    A completed university degree in Range Management, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Geography, GIS, or a related field.
•    Minimum 2 years of related experience. Experience with spatial data management and using ESRI GIS software products is required.

Equivalences may be considered: 2-year diploma plus 4 years related experience or Master’s degree plus 1 year of related experience. Additional related education considered in lieu of experience on a one-for-one basis.

Assets:
•    ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123
•    GIS data quality control and auditing
•    Project management experience.
•    Skills in Python, SQL, Power BI, relational databases, and FME.

Notes

•    This competition is for 1 full-time temporary wage position located in Edmonton. Other existing rangeland offices in Alberta may be considered.   
•    Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week.

Wage Benefits:

•    Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave. 
•    5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
•    6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
