Role Responsibilities

Join us as the Provincial Air Attack Officer and Airtanker Program Support. In this role you will undertake a variety of responsibilities supporting the Wildfire Response Program within the Forest Operations Branch. The primary focus of this position is the support of the Provincial Airtanker Program, aiming to enhance airtanker operations across the province. This position will help ensure that all airtankers, support facilities and personnel are operationally prepared for the wildfire season. This individual will assist with the development of appropriate operating policies and procedures, and maintain program performance standards, The successful candidate will work with minimal supervision. 


About Your Responsibilities:  
 

  • Direct and coordinate aerial attack operations on assigned wildfire incidents throughout the province. 
  • Assist with maintenance and improvement of the Airtanker Program 
  • Lead spring Flight Simulator Training for Air Attack Officers and Helicopter Coordinators 
  • Participate in the delivery of Provincial training as well as ongoing proficiency practice and field training as required 
  • Maintain Airtanker Program technology and data
  • Participate in spring start-up meetings and fall debrief with staff and contractors 
  • Manage and assist with Provincial contracts and agreements
  • Provide support to all Departmental programs.
     

You will be required to fill the role of Air Attack Officer in the field throughout the wildfire season for a minimum of three 15-day shifts. The role also requires readiness to respond to wildfire incidents and participate in on-call rotations as needed. Qualifications

Minimum Requirement:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management field plus a minimum of 2 years related and current experience will be considered.
  • Or a 2 year diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resources Management field plus four years of related and current experience is required. 
  • Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.


 
Additional requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License


Assets: 

  • Strong knowledge of decision support tools such as DISPATCH and FIRES.
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of aerial firefighting and airtanker base operations.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. The preferred location is Edmonton, but remote or other locations may also be considered. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evening and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.
 

Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
