The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

Do you have a strong background in the judicial system? The Government of Alberta is looking to fill the vital position of Provincial Sentence Admin Associate in either Edmonton or Calgary.

 

Reporting to the Provincial Sentence Administrator, you will be responsible for assisting Sentence Administration in their day-to-day operations, when requested, and developing strategies for remote and on-site support with each provincial correctional centre. You will also manage pre-trial custody calculation requests from Crown and Defense Counsel for the province by analyzing JOIN and ORCA to provide prompt and consistent calculations, which will be used to determine sentences for offenders. You will be responsible for reviewing records for accuracy pursuant to billing agreements with other jurisdictions supporting branches within the Correctional Services Division by maintaining data quality through various tasks such as investigating duplicate records in ORCA, completing data entry as needed as well as actioning various reports for the provincial correctional centers.  Additionally, you will assist the Provincial Sentence Administrator and the Learning Coach with the design and delivery of training to new and current sentence administrators and operations staff, maintenance of the Sentence Administration SharePoint site, manuals and other duties as required.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field such as Criminal Justice, Education, Criminology, Administration, Applied Justice; no experience required.

 

Equivalency: Directly related Education for 1 year of Experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

 

Preference will be given to Candidates with previous or current sentence administration experience, and/or experience working in the criminal justice system.

 

The following are considered assets for this role

  • Completion of Safe Air course
  • Previous or current working experience with JOIN, ORCA, CPIC

Notes

This Competition will be used to fill one full time permanent position in either Edmonton or Calgary.


Hours of Work is 36.25 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:15am to 4:30pm

Travel is required for this position and a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
