Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for leading the development of the provincial Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.
The Ministry designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that school and hospital infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Infrastructure provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager or Director, the Project Manager must be able to manage the diverse priorities of project team members, communicating clearly to resolve issues while respecting project scope, schedule, and budget constraints. The Project Manager ensures all phases of project activities comply with government and ministry legislation, policies, guidelines, standards and procedures. A key component of this position is working with stakeholders and industry to achieve results, requiring extensive professional knowledge of project management principles including knowledge of procurement, design, and construction disciplines.
To be successful in this role you require strong decision-making and negotiation skills to resolve issues relating to design proposals, progress claims, fee determination, construction contract delays, or extra cost claims. In this role you will be required to build collaborative working relationships with clients, senior leadership including representatives of Government departments, boards and agencies.
The primary responsibilities for the Project Manger include, but are not limited to:
- Directly managing the delivery of assigned projects including new schools, courthouses, health, and other capital projects as assigned.
- Defining project requirements with clients and coordinating the in-house activities of team members, consultants and contractors.
- Ensuring all phases of project activities comply with government and ministry legislation, policies, guidelines, standards and procedures.
- Working with stakeholders and industry to achieve results, requiring extensive professional knowledge of project management principles and utilizing project controls including knowledge of procurement, design and construction disciplines.
- Ensuring project scope, time, cost and quality objectives are met.

Qualifications

Required:
- Post-secondary degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
- Four years of project management experience with planning, design, construction and commissioning of facilities
- Contract management experience, and considerable experience managing interdisciplinary teams and resources, and a diverse portfolio of building projects
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Equivalency: Related experience or education (e.g. related diploma) may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
Assets:
- Certification as a construction administrator or project manager and training in management skills and relevant software applications.
- Extensive knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies are essential to manage all phases of a project from conception through design, tendering, award and construction.
- Knowledge of basic planning, design, construction and building commissioning theories, disciplines and process, including those related to architecture and structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.
Notes
This position is a Temporary, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
Location: Edmonton Alberta
A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required for this position.
