Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction
Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction (SARTR) is the government’s solution provider and supports the significant events in Albertans’ lives, like having a child, getting married, mourning the loss of a loved one, getting a driver’s license, or buying a home.
Our ministry is responsible for protecting consumers in an increasingly complex economic environment; overseeing registry activities, like vehicle, business and land registrations; and cutting red tape by one-third to reduce costs, speed up approvals, and make life easier for hard-working Albertans and businesses.
The iGaming team supports the Red Tape Reduction, Audit and Investigations (RTRAI) Division in Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction through the design and development of legislative and strategic policy frameworks supporting Alberta's online gambling model. The team ensures legislation and policy align with ministry and government priorities. This policy development work impacts multiple ministries, stakeholders and Albertans, with broad social and economic outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

As the Project Director, you will develop and oversee the implementation of key project deliverables related to the Minister of SARTR’s mandate to work with Indigenous partners, to finish developing and implementing Alberta's online gaming strategy with a focus on responsible gaming and provincial and Indigenous revenue generation. Accordingly, this position will provide you with an opportunity to play a large leadership role in the implementation of high-profile public policy, working across government to stand up a new government agency tasked with conducting and managing Alberta’s private iGaming market. You will play an integral establishing strong working relationships across government, and with industry stakeholders, to ensure that all applicable objectives related to the project are implemented. This complex file will impact multiple ministries, stakeholders, and Albertans, with broad and lasting social and economic outcomes.
Reporting to the Executive Director, as the Project Director you will be responsible for:
- Establishing an overarching project plan and adjusting accordingly as new priorities are identified
- Providing leadership and day-to-day management of assigned strategic initiatives and projects
- Inspiring and leading teams to accomplish objectives efficiently and effectively
- Working with individuals across government as well as external consultants implementing key project milestones
- The creation and completion of project proposals and action plans
- Ensuring deliverables are met by the cross-ministry and agency partners
- Drafting requests for proposals for external consultant teams, as needed
- Managing risks and finding solutions to problems where no obvious approach exists
- Providing regular project updates to the Deputy Minister and Minister, as required

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- University graduation in a related field (such as business, public administration, etc) plus a minimum of 7 years progressively responsible related experience in complex project management.
- Equivalencies will be considered on a one-for-one basis (one year of related experience for one year of related education, or one year of related education for one year of related experience).
Experience or knowledge that will be considered and asset:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
- Experience working within complex, multi-layered projects that utilize and rely on legislative and regulatory frameworks, data sharing and management platforms, and legal agreements.
- Management experience in a diverse and complex environment with professional staff.
- Experience in public sector project management and planning.
- Experience negotiating with various managers and executives, stakeholders and agency partners, and the vendor community.
