Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The ALSS Modernization Office is responsible for the modernization and digital re-engineering of ALSS programs to deliver simpler, faster and more cost-effective services that better meet the needs of Albertans, staff, service delivery partners and others. The office is an integral part of the ALSS Digital Transformation to enable the ALSS Digital Road Map and vision: “ALSS will provide simple, modern and accessible digital services that empower Albertans to achieve their goals.”

 

Role Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator plays a key role in delivering projects that improve how Albertans access social‑based programs and services. This role suits someone who is energized by complex work, is passionate about improving processes and how projects are delivered and is motivated by the opportunity to make a visible impact.

Project Planning and Delivery

You will be responsible for coordinating assigned projects or defined components of larger initiatives. This includes applying structured project management practices to move work from concept to implementation by:

  • Developing project charters, work plans, schedules, risks, and dependencies
  • Tracking progress, issues, and outcomes across multiple workstreams
  • Coordinating inputs from program areas, partners, and working groups
  • Adjusting plans as priorities shift to keep work on track

 

Business Analysis and Problem Solving

You will support informed decision‑making by analyzing service delivery, policy, and operational challenges using research and data‑informed approaches by:

  • Assessing impacts of proposed changes to programs, processes, or systems
  • Identifying opportunities to improve effectiveness and service delivery
  • Developing clear options and recommendations for leadership consideration
  • Preparing concise briefings, reports, and supporting materials

Modernization and Digital Enablement

You will actively support modernization and digital initiatives that improve how services are delivered and supported by:

  • Contributing to the rollout of new or enhanced services, tools, or processes
  • Using digital tools and data to support planning, analysis, and delivery
  • Monitoring results and identifying emerging issues during implementation
  • Recommending practical adjustments to strengthen outcomes and delivery approaches

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

Collaboration is central to this role. You will work across program areas, ministries, and stakeholder groups to move work forward by:

  • Leading or supporting working groups and committees
  • Preparing agendas, materials, and track actions and decisions
  • Supporting productive discussions and alignment on priorities
  • Representing the ministry in interdepartmental and cross‑functional forums

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • University graduation in a related field such as business administration, public administration, social sciences, economics, or computer science, plus a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience supporting projects, programs, or service delivery initiatives.
  • Project planning best practices, methodologies, and delivery approaches (including agile and waterfall)
  • Business process analysis and requirements development
  • Change management and systems development concepts
  • Facilitating and leading workshops, working groups, or structured discussions
  • Discovering, refining, prioritizing, and scoping requirements

 

Equivalencies will be considered, including:

  • Related diploma plus a minimum of four (4) years of related experience
  • Related certificate plus a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • A minimum of six (6) years of directly related experience

 

Assets:

  • Project Management training, certification, or demonstrated application of formal project management practices
  • Business Analyst training, certification, or experience translating business needs into actionable solutions
  • Experience supporting contact centre environments, including exposure to service delivery operations, quality assurance or performance measurement practices, and/or workforce or capacity planning concepts
  • Experience contributing to transformation or modernization initiatives, including process redesign, service model changes, or technology-enabled change
  • Experience supporting or implementing large, complex, or cross‑functional initiatives
  • Strong technical literacy, including comfort working with digital tools, systems, data, and modern collaboration platforms
  • Experience applying emerging technologies and leading exploratory pilots or proofs-of-concept to test, learn, and scale improvements to project delivery, business processes, or digital services
  • Awareness of responsible technology use, including ethical considerations related to automation, decision support, and data‑informed tools
  • Knowledge of current social policies and socio‑economic trends
  • Understanding of ministry business plans, objectives, and the legislative and policy environment in which government operates

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday. In-office full-time.
