The Strategic Implementation Branch plans and delivers diverse strategic initiatives and mandate-driven projects for the Finance, Governance and Capital Policy Sector. The Branch leads work on emergent priorities, alternative project delivery approaches, and new mandate initiatives, ensuring alignment with sector, Ministry, and Government of Alberta project management frameworks.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator provides critical coordination and analytical support for strategic initiatives and mandate-related projects within the Branch. This role links projects to established government project planning, operational, and management frameworks, supports effective information management, and contributes to research, reporting, and stakeholder communications.

 

The Project Coordinator works in a dynamic, evolving environment where projects are often novel and require adaptability, strong organization, and sound judgment.

 

This role is responsible for delivering the following key functions and outcomes:

 

  • Coordinate and support strategic initiatives and mandate-driven projects by maintaining project documentation, records, templates, and information repositories.
  • Provide guidance and advice on project processes, requirements, and relevant legislation, policies, and standards.
  • Conduct research, environmental scans, and analysis of trends and best practices to inform policy recommendations and project decisions.
  • Monitor and track project progress, deliverables, budgets, and timelines, identifying emerging issues and providing regular status updates to leadership.
  • Draft briefings, reports, presentations, and communications materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support administration of project components, including grants or pilot project applications, validation, and approvals.
  • Develop consolidated project updates, reports, and dashboards to support senior and executive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and external stakeholders to share information, support engagement, and advance project outcomes.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below. 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

 

Required

  • Experience conducting research, analysis, environmental scans, and/or communications activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting briefings, reports, and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with tools such as Excel, SharePoint, and information management systems
        

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta project management frameworks, policies, and decision-making processes
  • Grant Administration Experience 
  • Experience with capital planning or mandate-driven initiatives
  • Awareness of the political and organizational environment within government
