The Ministry of Assisted living and Social Services provides supports for families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The ministry supports Albertans through a person-centred, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.

Within the Disability Services Division, the Disability Policy branch leads program policy and statutory oversight for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) programs, focusing on accountability, innovation and policy excellence.

Role Responsibilities

The focus of the Program and Policy Advisor is to perform research and analysis, develop recommendations and information material on a broad range of issues that may affect the direction and operations of the PDD and FSCD program, as well as coordinate cross divisional projects that have a narrow scope or a strong precedent.

The incumbent performs research, development, consultation, facilitation and writing associated with program development, implementation, quality assurance and continuous improvement of the PDD and FSCD programs. This position is responsible for work that impacts the lives of Albertans with disabilities and their natural support systems and must consider the needs and priorities of these populations.

To be successful in this role, the Program and Policy Advisor will have the ability to:
•    Provide advice to management on program and policy questions;
•    Ensure projects are effectively coordinated;
•    Develope content in an appropriate format;
•    Effectively articulating advice/information; and
•    Use appropriate judgement to achieve desired outcomes.

Qualifications

Requirements: University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

•    1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
•    1 year of experience for 1 year of education

The following will be considered assets:
•    Experience working with the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Services Act and the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act and other legislative statutes 
•    Knowledge of issues and trends related to the needs of children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families and supporters 
•    Experience with policy development cycle

Notes

Preferred Working location is Edmonton, Alberta. However, other locations can be considered.

Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday.
