The Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program provides financial and health-related assistance to eligible adults with a disability. The disability must be permanent and substantially limit the person’s ability to earn a living. AISH clients may also be eligible to receive supplemental assistance (a child benefit and personal benefits) through the AISH program.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the AISH Application Team Lead, the Program Eligibility Assessor is responsible for determining initial financial eligibility for the Albertans applying to the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program.
The Program Eligibility Assessor conducts a detailed, in-depth review of the applicant's income and assets to determine if financial eligibility for the AISH program is met. Eligibility decisions must follow acceptable practices and guidelines as defined by program and operational policy, procedures and align with legislations.
This position is responsible for communicating eligibility decisions to applicants and gathering any additional documentation that may be required. If financial eligibility is not met, the Program Eligibility Assessor informs the applicant of the decision and provides information or refers that applicant to other programs and supports offered within the GOA or community.

Qualifications
Two-year diploma in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below. Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
This position requires an extensive knowledge and understanding of:
- The Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped Act, the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped General Regulation, and the Applications and Appeals (Ministerial) Regulation.
- Policies and procedures used in the AISH program.
- Government of Alberta programs such as Alberta Supports, Alberta Aids to Daily Living, Alberta Adult Health Benefit, Office of the Public Guardian/Trustee and Persons with Developmental Disabilities, Transition to Adulthood program or other applicable government resources.
- Programs offered by other government ministries, local and federal government including Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, Canada Disability Benefits, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Maintenance Enforcement Program, Alberta Seniors Benefits, Senior's Accommodation Benefits.
- Computer programs including but not limited to Imaging, LISA, CCD, TOI, AIMS, Microsft 365 including Teams, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Various investment types including RRSPs, RDSPs, annuities, LIRA and other investment types.
Preference will be given the applicants who have experience with Income Support or AISH programs. Experience working with vulnerable populations and determining eligibility for financial assistance programs will be considered an asset.

This competition will be used to fill several permanent positions. As remote positions, staff you must have reliable high speed internet. Work hours are Monday to Friday from 8:15am to 4:30pm.
