As a Procurement Officer in the Ministry of Justice—one of the Government of Alberta’s most complex and dynamic ministries, you will support critical programs that directly impact public safety, access to justice, and services for Albertans.

This is an opportunity to apply your procurement knowledge and skills in a high‑impact environment where transparency, accountability, and value‑for‑money drive every decision.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will act as a primary advisor and single point of contact for a portfolio of goods and services. You will lead end‑to‑end procurement activities, ensure compliance with legislation and trade agreements, and support ministry clients in navigating procurement requirements.

You will also contribute to policy and process enhancement, support Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) workflows, and help strengthen a procurement program built on fairness, transparency, and best value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead endtoend procurement activities for a diverse range of goods and services, ensuring compliance with legislation, trade agreements, and ministry policies.
  • Provide informed procurement advice to ministry stakeholders, helping define requirements, assess risks, and select effective procurement strategies.
  • Develop and manage competitive procurement processes, including preparing RFx documents, supporting evaluations, and ensuring award recommendations are documented.
  • Draft and finalize procurement contracts and amendments, ensuring terms are clear, enforceable, and compliant.
  • Ensure accurate procurement documentation and maintain contract workspaces within the 1GX ERP system throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support continuous improvement by contributing to procurement policies, best practices, and process enhancements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal clients, vendors, and cross‑government partners to support fair, transparent, and effective procurement.

Qualifications

University degree in a related field, such as Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or Education, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in procurement is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience with public‑sector procurement or Government of Alberta procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of RFx development, evaluation methodologies, and contract administration.
  • Knowledge of trade agreements as they relate to the procurement of Goods and Services within the public sector.
  • Experience working in ERP systems (e.g.1GX).


The following equivalencies may be considered:

  • A related 2-year Diploma plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience
  • A related 1-year Certificate plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • No post-secondary and a minimum of 6 years related experience

Notes

  • One 2-year temporary position
  • Hours of work: 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday-Friday)
