CMU Probation Officers operate in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment focused on oversight and enforcement of electronic monitoring programs. Your responsibilities include:
• Monitoring individuals under electronic supervision.
• Responding to alerts and potential violations in real time.
• Coordinating with law enforcement, field offices, and community partners.
• Documenting incidents and maintaining detailed case records.
• Ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions and program standards.
• Participating in shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications
Correctional Service Worker 1: Two-year diploma in a related field plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described.
• A related one year certificate and three years of related experience.
• Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.
Correctional Service Worker 2: University graduation in a related field plus 2 years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
• Two year diploma in a related field plus 4 years related experience; OR
• Completion of the in-service Criminal Justice Certificate plus 5 years related experience (applicable only to employees who have completed the certificate prior to it being discontinued on December 31, 2017).
Related education to the following fields will be considered:
• Sociology
• Psychology
• Social Work
• Youth Work
• Correctional Services
• Justice Studies
• Applied Justice
• Criminology
Related work experience will be considered if it includes relevant casework responsibilities such as completing casework or delivering programming services (e.g., behavior management planning, supporting vulnerable populations, behavior intervention, rehabilitation, or addiction-related support).
Assets will be considered as follows:
• Experience working in Community Corrections or providing case management with vulnerable populations.
• Experience in completing casework/ programming services (example: behaviour management planning, community corrections programs).
• Familiarity with electronic monitoring systems and related legislation.
Notes
This competition will be used to fill current and future wage (casual/on-call) Probation Officer positions in Edmonton.
We are building a pool of qualified candidates who are interested in casual, on-call opportunities only with the Central Monitoring Unit, based in Edmonton. Those in the wage pool will be contacted on an as-needed basis.
Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of the interview.
Please note:
• Wage positions do not have guaranteed hours. Candidates will be contacted based on CMU operational needs.
• The position is based in Edmonton and requires shift work.
• The CMU operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and shifts may include days, afternoons, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Security screening and background checks will be conducted prior to appointment.
• Training will be provided to ensure consistency with CMU protocols and ministry standards.
Travel within the community may be necessary, therefore reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
All costs associated with the recruitment process including documentation fees and travel expenses are the candidate’s responsibility. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the documents requested above from the province they reside in.
Candidates may be required to complete a written assignment at the interview stage.
Successful candidates will be required to complete pre-employment checks, including a fingerprint-based criminal background check and academic verification. Positions involving work with youth will also require a Vulnerable Sector Check.
