As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for growing Alberta’s environmentally responsible wood products and forestry sector. We protect Alberta’s forests from wildfire and preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated Priority Issues Coordinator to provide critical support to the Executive Director and leadership team within our Forestry Division. This role requires agility in handling high-priority initiatives, strong communication skills, and proficiency in document and presentation preparation while working closely with leadership at all levels, overseeing ARTS requests, maintaining the Division’s issues tracker, and handling FOIP matters. Key Responsibilities:
•    Prepare, review, and present high-quality documents and executive-level presentations to communicate key issues and recommendations effectively.
•    Take initiative in identifying and addressing emerging issues, ensuring proactive responses and timely follow-ups.
•    Conduct research and engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant information and provide informed recommendations.
•    Ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality control in all documents and communications for senior leadership, including briefing notes and action requests.
•    Develop and manage divisional integration strategies, including situation reports, action request metrics, and session briefing binders.
•    Facilitate inter-ministry collaboration by identifying communication gaps, proposing solutions, and implementing improvements to streamline coordination.
•    Work closely with Executive Directors, Directors, and Managers to strategize and coordinate divisional responses to critical issues while maintaining an organized issues management system.
•    Act as a key resource in problem-solving, coordinating responses to priority matters, and escalating concerns appropriately, ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced environment.
•    Provides primary back up for other Issues Coordinators and Executive Advisor (as needed) assigning and drafting ARs

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

University graduation in a related field such as in Business or Public Administration plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

 

Directly related education or experience based on 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. 

 

Assets:
•    Excellence in concise written communications, with focus on executive level audience communication.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships.

Notes

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity located in Edmonton. This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evening and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.

 

Travel within the area and throughout the province may be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
