Role Responsibilities

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale heating, cooling, and auxiliary equipment. From monitoring high- and low-pressure boilers to managing emergency power systems, your expertise will help keep building environments safe, comfortable, and functional. This is a unique opportunity to work with advanced mechanical systems while contributing to an essential public service.

Your will be responsible for:

• Operating and maintaining heating, cooling, and auxiliary plant equipment in compliance with standards and guidelines
• Reading, interpreting, and adjusting meters, gauges, and control systems
• Testing and regulating chemical content in heating and cooling systems
• Ensuring boilers and related equipment are operated within safety and performance specifications
• Monitoring, servicing, and repairing air handling systems, standby boilers, emergency generators, and associated equipment
• Taking action to meet heating, cooling, and air quality requirements
• Responding to facility user concerns and resolving operational issues
• Ordering, receiving, and managing parts, chemicals, and supplies
• Identifying maintenance needs and recording repair requirements
• Preparing reports and maintaining accurate operational records

Qualifications

Requirements

•    4th Class Power Engineer Certificate recognized in Alberta (ABSA certified) 

The successful candidate MUST also have: 
•    Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining high- and low-pressure boiler systems
•    Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems for heating and cooling plants
•    Ability to interpret technical data, gauges, and schematics accurately
•    Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions safely and effectively
•    Operations and maintenance procedures for heating and cooling systems and related auxiliary equipment
•    Building mechanical maintenance practices and approaches
•    Safe operation and maintenance of relevant tools and test equipment
•    Strong communication and problem-solving skills for responding to operational concerns
•    Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to regulations and standards
•    Written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate technical issues and solutions
•    Interpersonal skills to interact positively with facility users, clients, contractors, and co-workers
•    Ability to work a rotating, on-call weekend schedule

Assets:

•    Experience and knowledge of government business plans, goals, strategies, and priorities as they relate to the Ministry and the work        area
•    Experience operating building management control systems (BMS)
•    Familiarity with automated card access and computerized maintenance management systems
•    Knowledge of water treatment systems, including reverse osmosis and demineralization
•    Experience in chemical wastewater treatment operations
•    Background in cogeneration plant operations
•    Working knowledge of refrigeration, chiller or HVAC systems or similar 
•    Class 5 Drivers license (or equivalent) and ability to provide a clear driver abstract
•    Ability and readiness to occasionally pick up materials and supplies using a company vehicle
