The Public Service Commission (PSC) provides human resources (HR) services to the Government of Alberta (GoA). It leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and programs that ensure Alberta has a professional, non-partisan, diverse, inclusive public service that proudly service Albertans. This is achieved by providing expert advice, strategic leadership, and stewardship as well as developing and delivering innovative supports and services to Alberta Public Service (APS) employees.

Experience in the PSC offers exposure to HR policy, government decision-making, and large-scale workforce initiatives. Knowledge gained in this role can be leveraged throughout a career in the Alberta Public Service (APS).

 

Part of the Workforce Policy and Public Agency Governance Branch, the Strategic Planning and Policy unit provides strategic policy development services and supports briefing and decision-making processes. The unit provides a leadership role in coordinating and developing effective policy responses to a range of priority, emerging, and cross-cutting issues that impact the APS.

As a Policy Analyst, you’ll work in a collaborative, professional environment where your analysis, research, and problem‑solving skills directly inform programs, legislation, and strategic initiatives.

 

What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
•    Research, analyze, and evaluate policy issues, options, and impacts using qualitative and quantitative data.
•    Prepare clear, concise briefing materials, reports, and recommendations for senior leaders.
•    Support the development, review, and implementation of policies, legislation, and programs.
•    Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather input and ensure alignment.
•    Monitor emerging trends, risks, and best practices to inform policy advice.
•    Contribute to cross branch or cross ministry initiatives and working groups.

Qualifications

Minimum recruitment standard:

A University graduation in Public Policy, Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics or a related field. 


Equivalency
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
•    A related two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and two years of related experience, or
•    A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and three years of related experience.


Assets:
•    Knowledge of government decision making processes.
•    Familiary with the policy cycle and policy development.
•    Experience in project management.

Location:
This position is based in Edmonton, Alberta out of the Peace Hills Trust Tower Building.

 

Hours of work:
36.25 hours per week - Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 4:30pm.
