Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Intergovernmental and Cross Ministry Strategy, the Policy Analyst supports the development, integration and execution of intergovernmental strategies and initiatives to support economic growth, diversification, investment competitiveness and job creation in Alberta.
In your role as the Policy Analyst, you will:
- Support intergovernmental relations related to broad economic strategy and industries (e.g. briefing materials to support engagement with the federal government on economic priorities).
- Provide ongoing intelligence of intergovernmental trends and programs, and support collaboration with cross-government partners (e.g. federal economic development program updates and analysis of impact to Alberta, support cross-government tables).
- Provide cross-ministry intergovernmental economic strategy support (e.g. cross-team coordination and input).
- Support Federal/Provincial/Territorial activities related to the department's economic agenda.
- Collaborate and coordinate with teams across the department to support policy projects and initiatives.
- Support strategic initiatives and policy projects that are focused on addressing economic challenges facing Alberta.
- Support the unit and the division to accomplish operational goals.

Qualifications
University graduation in Political Science, Economics, Public Administration or in a related field; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
The following knowledge or experiences are considered assets:
- Understanding of the Canadian federal system of government and Canadian intergovernmental relations environment, and awareness of jurisdictional issues, emerging issues and current events impacting intergovernmental relations.
- Familiarity with policy development and awareness of government decision-making processes, including preparing and providing analysis, briefings and presentations.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships and success in working on complex issues within short timelines.
- Interpersonal and team skills with the ability to work as part of a team to achieve the desired ends, and participate as an effective team member.
- Capacity to provide analysis and creative thought in the development of strategic options and policy recommendations.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to write in a clear and succinct manner.
- Strategic thinking, synthesizing, conceptual and analytical skills.
