The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
- Funding supports for municipalities
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment
- Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders
- Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans
- Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province's three Special Areas
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal

Role Responsibilities
As a Policy Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting policy coordination and development within the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. Reporting to the Manager, Policy & Coordination, you will work closely with subject matter experts and policy leads to track and align legislative and regulatory initiatives with government priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Coordination: Track and consolidate ministry-wide policy initiatives, legislative changes, and government commitments.
- Policy Development Support: Conduct research, develop briefing materials, and provide recommendations on policy and legislative changes.
- Legislative Planning: Advise on timelines, milestones, and best practices to align policy development with legislative processes.
- Decision-Making Support: Ensure Cabinet and Committee materials are accurate, compliant, and aligned with government requirements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with program area experts to develop clear, well-structured policy and legislative proposals.
This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced policy environment.

Qualifications

Required: 4 years Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum 2 years related experience is required.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

- Political Acumen & Risk Management: Ability to assess legislative sensitivity, identify risks, and provide strategic solutions.
Notes
This position is a Permanent position with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
