The work of the Inspection and Investigation Section (IIS) focuses on providing a regulatory environment that contributes to and enhances the growth of a globally competitive and sustainable agriculture and food industry. IIS contributes to the security and safety of the animal and food systems by providing effective and efficient inspection, licensing, investigation, audit assurance, and enforcement of nine Acts and 10 Regulations assigned to the Section as well as related legislation assigned to other branches within Agriculture. IIS is also mandated to ensure that Alberta remains rat free and oversees the Wild Boar Program.
Role Responsibilities
The Policy and Projects Coordinator within the Inspection and Investigation Section (IIS) will work with a broad team, providing both policy and projects support to the Rat Control Program, Wild Boar Control Program, and Feeder Associations Loan Guarantee Program, as well as support to the Inspection and Investigation Specialists and other sections within the Animal Health and Assurance Branch (AHAB) as required.
This position reports to the Director of IIS, who reports to the AHAB Executive Director.
This position requires an ability to interpret legislation and government directives, as well as a strong understanding of the policy process, political acumen, project coordination, communications, and excellent writing skills.
The emphasis will be on the development, maintenance and monitoring of legislation, regulations and internal procedures and projects in support of IIS' objectives.
This position will also work closely with various industry representatives, boards, and commissions in the course of their duties. This includes, but not restricted to: Alberta Milk, Alberta Pork, Feeder Associations of Alberta Limited, Alberta Association of Agricultural Fieldmen, Alberta Elk Commission, Livestock Identification Services Ltd. (LIS), Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (AB SPCA), Alberta Health Services, Natural Resources Conservation Board, and Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field (e.g. public policy, political science, economics, animal science, public administration, project management) plus four years of progressively responsible related experience (e.g. program planning, policy development and project management).
Equivalency: related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Experience with program evaluation, legislation development, interpretation and review, including public consultation and implementation.
- Knowledge of the government decision-making processes, objectives, goals and strategies.
- Strong project and resource management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and diverse projects at one time.
- Experience with applicable business productivity tools and information management systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, ARTS, Agridam).

Notes
This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate can choose to work from Edmonton or Red Deer or Airdrie.
Occasional travel may be required.
