BTO delivers varied IT services related to audit, development, infrastructure, integration, maintenance, operations, platforms, project delivery, quality, service design, service desk, telecommunications and more.

Role Responsibilities

If so, the ministry of Technology and Innovation has the perfect opportunity for you in our Platform Services Analyst role.

As Platform Services Analyst, you will provide technical consulting with other team members and client staff as appropriate, project leadership of small to medium sized projects and full range of system and customer support services (e.g. system design, development, testing and implementation of new systems as well as maintenance and enhancements of existing applications and client training as required).

The responsibilities of these role include: 

  • System design for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of the applications to ensure the system design meets business requirements and to attain clarity on business requirements. 
  • Systems Analysis for the development, enhancement and maintenance of the applications, or any impact from changes on interfaced systems, to attain clarity on business requirements to ensure that business needs are well understood. 
  • Construction activities for the maintenance and enhancement of the applications to implement the required changes. 
  • Providing production operation and support tasks to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the applications. 
  • Plan, support, test and document upgrades to COTS and vendor products (such as operating systems, compilers and utilities, job scheduler, database management systems, etc) to maintain continued application stability.  
  • Providing services to clients based on developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the clients business to help them perform their business functions. 
  • Continuing to learn and expand technical expertise in the tools and products used to support the applications so that the clients receive most up to date and efficient system possible. 
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members to contribute to a cohesive and effective team.
     

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Practitioner's understanding of software architecture, change and information management processes. 
  • Ability to detect and repair problems, independently and quickly. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively to staff with a varying degree of systems understanding (none to expert). 
  • Strong technical and analytical skills. 
  • Excellent proficiency with standard business software tools. 
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.  
  • Ability to prepare professional presentations and training materials, and conduct training sessions. 
  • The ability to work well in a team environment, take direction, mentor and support team members and work within deadlines is essential. 

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • University degree in a related field such as Computer Science or Information Technology, with two (2) years of related experience. 
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting a broad range of enterprise technology. 
  • Experience supporting application infrastructure and/or software development. 
  • Experience with extensive use of analytical, planning, organization, evaluation and problem solving skills. 
  • Broad understanding of the technical environment and linkages between systems. 
  • Software development and maintenance of the custom as well as the COTS solutions experience. 
  • Operational support, coordination and change management experience of the service delivery. 
     

Equivalencies: 
Directly related education or experience considered based on:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer science or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and four (4) years related experience; or 
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years related experience. 
     

Assets: 

  • Experience with application design and change management procedures. 
  • Expertise in server setup, configuration, and patching of COTS products. 
  • Experience in developing and debugging code in C#, Java, MS SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, Angular.Js, JBoss Seam, PrimeFaces, Struts, Visual Studio .Net, MSSQL, Oracle, .Net Framework, MVC, ASP.Net, Lotus Notes, PowerBuilder, Sybase, Shell Scripting. 
  • Experience with Windows Server including security configuration, security configuration, IIS configuration, WebSphere configuration and IBM Cognos configuration. 
  • Experience with Collaboration Services: SharePoint and Content Services; OpenText, IBM Content Manager and other related services. 
  • Solid understanding of database principles, practice, design, configuration. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - ability to present complex information in a clear and concise format. 
  • Strong organizational and time-priority management skills to effectively balance multiple priorities and demands. 
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • ServiceNow, MS Dynamics or NICE InContact certification or equivalent experience with similar tools.

Location: Remote across Alberta
