Role Responsibilities

Alberta Transportation manages more than 30,000 km of highways. Would you enjoy the challenge of using your pavement design knowledge to help guide the selection of the right pavement treatments on the right roads at the right time? 


Reporting to the Surfacing Standards Specialist of the Pavement Engineering section, this position assists in the development, monitoring and updating of structural pavement engineering standards and specifications for the Department. The position is responsible for analyzing pavement design strategies for highway rehabilitation projects and providing guidance and direction to consultants in producing cost-effective and optimized pavement designs consistent with Department standards. The position also keeps abreast of technological advancements and innovations related to pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation for adoption by the Department. 


Through strong communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will provide technical knowledge and support related to pavement design and construction to other areas within the Department and promote partnerships with the Department’s pavement design consultants.

Qualifications

A university degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years demonstrated engineering experience in pavement engineering including pavement structural analysis, pavement rehabilitation and preservation treatments, lifecycle cost analysis, innovative solutions, and/or pavement materials and construction.

Required:
•    Experience with AASHTO 93 is required. 
•    Member of APEGA or eligible for membership with APEGA is required. 
•    A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Assets:

•    Experience using the MEPDG will be considered an asset. 
•    Post-graduate study in pavement design and engineering is desirable.
•    University degree in Civil Engineering, will be considered an asset.
 


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 
•    1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
•    1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
 

Location: Edmonton, other location may be considered.
