Role Responsibilities
The Parks Land and Resource Coordinator is responsible for leading land and resource management activities across the Parks Division. This position coordinates the province wide disposition and permission management programs and supports planning processes that guide land and resource use within Alberta Parks. The role develops and implements operational frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent program delivery and compliance with legislation and provincial standards.
The coordinator works collaboratively with cross-ministry partners, facilitates provincial working groups, and provides technical expertise to internal teams and stakeholders. The position also supports consultation and engagement activities with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public, ensuring land and resource decisions are well-informed and aligned with broader provincial priorities.
Duties
- Lead and coordinate the Parks Act dispositions and permission program, including policy development, training, and operational delivery.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, templates, and communication materials for land and resource management.
- Coordinate with the Lands Division to ensure alignment with Public Lands, provincial processes.
- Facilitate committees and working groups to improve consistency and service delivery across regions.
- Oversee the digital permitting system, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and identifying improvements.
- Conduct strategic program reviews, analyze data, and prepare reports and recommendations.
- Provide technical expertise to internal staff, project teams, and partners on land and resource management matters.
- Support Park planning initiatives by integrating land and resource requirements into planning processes.
- Contribute to provincial initiatives, including system modernization and environmental or operational improvement projects.
- Support consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public.

Qualifications
University degree in a related field (Environment, park or recreation management, parks planning or municipal management) supplemented with a minimum of six years’ progressive experience, preferably in land management, resource management, parks planning, or municipal governance.
Equivalencies will be considered.
Equivalency:
- A related two-year diploma plus 8 years related experience.
- Additional related education considered in lieu of experience on a one-for-one basis.
Note: A valid Class 5 driver`s license is required.
Required:
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, and operational requirements related to land and resource use.
- Ability to lead and support land use disposition and permitting processes.
- Ability to apply legal principles related to public land use and disposition management.
- Ability to conduct planning activities involving land and resource analysis and integration.
- Ability to apply ecological principles relevant to land and resource management in protected areas.
- Strong analytical, project leadership, communication, and strategic planning abilities.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational practices.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
Assets:
- Experience working with provincial land management, disposition or permitting systems.
- Experience participating in or leading cross ministry committees or working groups.
- Experience in consultation or engagement with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, or the public.
- Experience supporting land use planning or provincial planning initiatives.
- Experience with environmental or ecological program areas such as environmental liabilities or invasive species.
- Experience preparing communication materials for internal or external audiences.
- Training or experience in wildfire management.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity. The preferred location is a regional parks office: Edmonton, Lac La Biche, Lethbridge, Canmore or Red Deer, but alternatives may be considered.
