The Royalty Operations branch is responsible for accurate and timely calculation, assessment, collection and reconciliation of natural gas and conventional oil royalty. The branch is a primary driver of revenue within the department, fostering relationships with the natural gas and oil industries, while providing exceptional client service to ensure compliance with legislation and business rules.

Role Responsibilities

Alberta Energy and Minerals has an available opportunity for five (5) experienced individuals looking to work within the world of Royalty Operations.

Royalty Operations is looking for detail oriented and motivated individuals to fill the roles of Operational Analysts. With your keen eye for details; your outstanding interpersonal skills; and your ability to analyze information and problem solve; you will be a valuable part of a team that contributes to the accurate assessment, levy and collection of royalties for production in Alberta.

Operational Analyst (Gas Royalty Operations unit):

The Gas Royalty Operations unit is looking for five (5) Operational Analysts (Royalty Administration) responsible for:

•    Providing quality client services to stakeholders and advising on interpretation of the Alberta Natural Gas Royalty Guidelines (Guidelines), policies, the Natural Gas Royalty Regulations (NGRR), and the Mines and Minerals Act (MMA). 
•    Contributing to the collection of underpaid natural gas royalty accounts.
•    Answering complex issues or questions raised by internal or external stakeholders affecting Crown royalty collections, calculation, and assessment to ensure overdue royalty amounts are accurate and in compliance.
•    Resolving account balances and accurately recording and associating incoming payments from clients. 
•    Administration of client gas royalty accounts in arrears and ensuring all collections procedures are followed accurately and in a timely manner. 
•    Utilizing various internal and external applications to research, retrieve, interpret, and analyze data related to all aspects of natural gas royalty calculation. 
•    Using organization, multitasking, and prioritizing skills to meet multiple deadlines.
•    Working as an individual and within a team to ensure operational and business requirements are met.
•    Researching, investigating, analyzing, and proposing recommendations on emerging issues and projects.
•    Assisting the Team Lead in organizing team business activities to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved in an efficient and innovative manner.
•    Assisting the Team Lead in ensuring business and system processes comply with internal controls to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of operations and achieve Branch and Department goals.

Qualifications

High school diploma and four years of related experience.

Equivalency (for roles):

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: 
•    one year of experience for one year of education or 
•    one year of education for one year of experience.

The following are considered as assets:
•    An accounting diploma or Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accountants (CAPPA) certificate.
•    Experience working with oil and gas business and industry processes, relating to the reporting of oil and gas royalties.
•    Experience with financial research and analysis.
•    Experience in enforcement of policies, including legislation and guidelines.
•    Client service experience.

Notes

There are five full-time temporary positions working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The working location is Petroleum Plaza Building North Tower, Edmonton.

A written test demonstrating Word and Excel aptitude may be used as part of the screening  process before the interview.
