Role Responsibilities
The Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Coordinator is a key resource within the Strategic Initiatives and Business Services team, reporting to the Corporate Services Manager. This position is responsible for delivering Occupational Health & Safety services to the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) in a consistent and proactive manner across all work locations throughout the province.
The OH&S Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the department's health and safety systems. This role provides expert guidance and consultation to staff on a wide range of health and safety matters, including the interpretation and application of the GoA OH&S Program, relevant legislation, and standards. The Coordinator contributes to hazard identification and risk control strategies by making informed recommendations related to safe work practices, processes, and procedures.
The responsibilities of these roles include:
- Developing and implementing OHS processes and documentation aligned with GoA OHS Program, legislation, and standards to support departmental operations.
- Conducting hazard assessments, risk analyses, and inspections, and supporting training needs and safety improvements across provincial worksites.
- Supporting and advising OH&S Committees, attending meetings, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Assisting with incident investigations and emergency responses, preparing reports, and communicating with relevant authorities and leadership.
- Coordinating first aid and emergency preparedness programs in alignment with legislative and departmental requirements.
- Maintaining OH&S records and documentation systems, including SharePoint, and ensuring accessibility for staff and leadership.
- Developing tracking and reporting systems to support audits, evaluations, and senior management decision-making.
- Providing technical guidance and staying current on OH&S legislation, trends, and best practices while fostering collaboration across departments.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Alberta Occupational Certificate plus seven (7) years related experience.
- Strong working knowledge of OH&S related requirements for contracting and project management.
- Knowledge of relevant Federal and Provincial legislation and standards related to OH&S, such as Alberta's OHS Act, Regulations and Code; CSA standards; Fire and Building codes; Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act; Workers Compensation Act; etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, crawling, heavy lifting, bending, and kneeling, as required by the role. This position may also involve exposure to a variety of environmental conditions.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license required, as the role includes travel across various locations within the province.

Equivalencies:
- A related diploma plus a minimum of four (4) years related experience.
