As an Occupational Health & Safety Consultant (OHSC), you’ll apply your technical expertise and strategic thinking to help ministries strengthen their safety programs, reduce harm, and support employee wellbeing. You’ll join a knowledgeable, collaborative OHS community where learning, professional growth, and cross‑ministry teamwork are at the core of how we operate.

 

What You Will Do
In this role, reporting to an OHS Team Lead, you will provide comprehensive occupational health and safety consulting services to support ministries in creating safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces. Your key responsibilities include:

•    Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the GOA OHS Program and provide expert interpretation of OHS legislation, standards, policies, and directives. 
•    Lead or support hazard assessments, written practices and procedures, workplace inspections, and broader risk management activities. 
•    Conduct or support investigations into serious and potentially serious incidents, ensure high quality incident reporting, and provide guidance on incident management and WCB related processes. 
•    Work with emergency response teams, including readiness support during Fire Season. 
•    Collect and analyze OHS data to identify trends, develop performance measures, and recommend actions to improve safety outcomes. 
•    Support Health & Safety Committees and participate in OHS community groups involved in program updates and implementation. 
•    Assist with the development and rollout of OHS procedures and practices aligned with legislative requirements. 
•    Provide coaching, training, and subject matter expertise to leaders and employees on their OHS responsibilities, including psychological health and safety, wellness, Duty to Accommodate, and Return to Work processes.

Qualifications

Minimum recruitment standard: University graduation in a related field (Sciences, Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, Business), and a related area supplemented with a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience in OHS program development and implementation.


Equivalencies:
•    A related two-year diploma in OHS from a recognized post-secondary institution and four years of related experience, or
•    A related one-year OHS certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years of related experience.


Role requirement:
•    Strong working knowledge of OHS legislation and its application across various workplaces.
•    Experience supporting OHS programs, incident management, committee development, claim‑related processes, or psychological health & safety.
•    Ability to interpret legislation, analyze data, prepare reports, and provide sound recommendations.
•    Comfort facilitating training and presenting to leaders at all levels.


Assets (Nice to Have):
•    OHS professional designation (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, other related and recognized equivalent).
•    Experience with large enterprise OHS Programs and incident management systems.
•    Familiarity with CSA Psychological Health & Safety Standards.

Notes

Location: Edmonton
Temporary position up to 12 months.
A Class 5 driver’s license is required.
Travel within Alberta (approximately 20%).
