The Technology Support and Operations Division uses a one-government approach to Information Management and Technology (IMT) governance, decision-making and service delivery across the Government of Alberta (GoA) balanced with individual business partner needs. This broader lens facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation support to ensure effective IMT solutions and service delivery across the government to provide better services to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Network Operations, as the Network Operations Team Lead, you will deliver technical analysis, design, implementation, support and operations of IMT services and projects.  In this position you will utilizes IT Incident, Problem, Change, Project, Service and Capacity Management principles to achieve innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems.  

Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing information technology development, maintenance and support services to clients being the SME on one or more networking service in the environment
  • Planning, scheduling, communicating and implementing changes related to the services/products supported by the team.
  • Identifying risks or issues and proactively updating and upgrading the services.
  • Providing system reporting development and support by interpreting the reporting requirements that come in through various methods from all levels of clients and users and translating that into a report. Maintaining existing reports. Maintaining and improving the reporting standards.
  • Staying current with technological developments in infrastructure services, cloud technologies and user support practices.
  • Providing mentoring and leadership to a team of analysts by leading complex projects and activities that often involve multiple stakeholders. Participating in branch planning activities and coordinate with leadership team. Coordinating service testing, evaluation and recommendations. Organizing project teams and monitor progress of key activities.
  • Maintaining duty rosters, managing absences and timesheets, conducting performance reviews and developing training goals for team members.
  • Participating in the implementation of business plans, goals, objectives, strategies and targets as well as improving service and enhancing customer relations.
  • Communication with stakeholders and co-workers will be essential in ensuring that project deliverables meet client expectation.
  • Providing acting manager duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University graduation in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or a related field. 
  • Four (4) years of progressivly responsible related experience in managing the lifecycle of network services (development, installation, maintenance/operations/decommission).

Equivalencies:  
Equivalencies are considered on the basis of: 

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and six (6) years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven (7) years related experience.


Assets:

  • Knowledge of computer science concepts and methodologies (software, infrastructure, programming, network and mainframe products, and systems management).
  • Knowledge of network routing protocols specifically related to (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), as well as knowledge of software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) technology.  
  • Knowledge of Government IT policies and legislation and an understanding of its application on related assignments.
  • Experience in architect design to implement, and maintain the lifecycle of a network service. 
  • Experience in leading the evaluation, selection and testing of new hardware and software.
  • Experience in planning, developing, and coordinating projects that involve multiple areas or departments, with strong communication and project management skills to stay on track.
  • Experience in stakeholder management with expertise in coordinating activities such as IT change requests, service enhancements for managed services (such as how wireless is delivered to clients), troubleshooting difficult problems with suppliers or vendors.
  • Experience with change management procedures, developing well document changes, working with change boards to translate technical language into layman’s terms so the work may be approved. 
  • Supervisory/leadership experience, leading and mentoring a team of IT professionals.
  • Strong communication skills to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders and provide guidance.

Term of Employment:  Permanent, Full-time position. 

Hours of Work:  36.25 hrs./week - Monday to Friday 

Location: Edmonton or Calgary

These positions are eligible for hybrid work. You must reside in Edmonton or Calgary.

This position has a requirement to work on call. Successful candidate must be willing to work on call shifts as needed.

Final candidate will be required to undergo enhanced security screening.
