The Infrastructure and Service Management Branch manages, operates and supports the information management technology (IMT) infrastructure and productivity tools, and manages the overall provision of technical services, incidents response, and IMT service requests for the Government of Alberta (GoA).

Role Responsibilities

As the Network Analyst, you will report to the Team Lead of the Network Operations team and are expected to provide expertise in routing, switching, and firewalls on Cisco network equipment. The team’s duties are to support the GOA shared data network service.

This position encompasses the entire life cycle of the network service from the development, to installation, to maintenance / operation and finally the decommissioning of the hardware that supports the LAN and WAN networks service. This will provide multiple ministries’ clients with a reliable and cost-effective network service. You will assist the senior analyst in both projects and operational activities. The operational activities will include working with a senior analyst in the development of new network solutions to meet changing ministry requirements.

The responsibilities of this role include:

•    Resolution of network problems to limit the loss of network services.
•    Assistance with network activities to ensure proper implementation.
•    Monitoring of network performance, analysis, and resolution of problems.
•    The installation and upgrading of network hardware and software.
•    Working with new technologies and products.


To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

•    Good interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written).
•    Organizational skills (i.e. prioritization skills and ability to work in a continually changing technical environment).
•    A good understanding of network monitoring tools such as Solar Winds and NetScout nGeniusOne.
•    Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network related issues quickly.
•    A good knowledge of basic and advanced networking principles (TCP, UDP, IP addressing, etc).

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • 2 years of related IT networking experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence required to drive to different sites located anywhere from locally in the city to around the province to deploy or configure network hardware on-site.

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and four years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years related experience.

 

Assets:

  • Experience in an application development or network maintenance environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of network routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, etc).
  • In-depth understanding and experience in the use of Cisco IOS and/or IOS-XE (routers and switches).
  • In-depth knowledge and use of wireless solutions (Cisco Wireless Controllers, Cisco DNA Centre, Aruba Wireless)
  • Experience in creating and following network related procedures and documentations.   
  • Familiarity with practical applications of ITIL Service Support and Service Delivery and Microsoft.
  • Experience with ITSM (ServiceNow) application.
  • In-depth understanding of network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, NetScout nGeniousOne, and Cisco DNA Centre.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking best practices.
  • Knowledge and experience with QoS, VRF, Cisco MPLS, and Queuing.
  • In-depth knowledge of basic and advance networking principles (TCP, UDP, IP addressing, etc).

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday

Location: Edmonton or Calgary
