The Technology Support and Operations Division uses a one-government approach to Information Management and Technology (IMT) governance, decision-making and service delivery across the Government of Alberta (GoA) balanced with individual business partner needs. This broader lens facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation support to ensure effective IMT solutions and service delivery across the government to provide better services to Albertans.
The Technical Services Unit manages, operates, and evolves the information management technology (IMT) infrastructure and productivity tools, and manages the overall provision of technical services including servers, network, storage, security, data centres and shared IT facilities for the Government of Alberta (GoA).
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Team Lead - Load Balancer operation, this position delivers technical analysis, design, implementation, support and operations of IMT services and projects. Work performed will utilize IT Incident, Problem, Change, Project, Service and Capacity Management principles to achieve innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems. This position will work with and receive guidance from a team of analysts within the Technical Services unit. This position will use its diverse IT expertise to operate independently on assigned work.
The responsibilities of these roles include:
- Providing information technology development, maintenance, and support services to clients.
- Recommending changes or enhancements for applicable information technology services/products to the Team Lead.
- Interpreting the reporting requirements that come in through various methods from all levels of clients and users and translating that into a report.
- Updating and developing information technology systems and programs.
- Planning, scheduling, communicating and implementing changes related to the services/products supported by the team.
- Identifying risks or issues and proactively updating and upgrading the services supported by the team accordingly.
- Creating and maintaining database reporting as required.
- Troubleshooting, identifying and resolving issues identified because of network and other activities monitoring and logs analysis.
- Preparing service requests and providing background information for vendor/service providers.
To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of network systems specifically related to (Load balancing, and DNS services).
- An understanding of ITIL concepts and processes.
- The ability to work well in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders and provide guidance.

Qualifications
Requirements:
• 2-year diploma in a related field such as Computer Sciences or Information Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Equivalencies:
Equivalencies will be considered:
• A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and 1 years related experience.
• An industry-recognized certification from a credible source, such as CCNA, F5 BIG-IP Administration, may be used in place of the 1-year certificate.
Assets: Preference will be given to candidates with:
• Networking fundamentals.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS.
• Familiarity with OSI models.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25-50%.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position
Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday
Location: Hybrid (Edmonton/Calgary)
This position is eligible for hybrid work. You must reside in Edmonton or Calgary.
