The First Nations & Metis Relations Division consists of the First Nations Relations, Metis Relations, and Corporate Services and Planning branches. This position is being recruited to the Metis Relations branch, which works closely with Métis communities and organizations, the Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, and Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association. The branch also delivers the Employment Partnerships Program and is responsible for administering the Indigenous Consultation Capacity Program. Along with delivering these two grant programs, the branch also manages several grants with Indigenous organizations each year.
Role Responsibilities

If so, we want you to join us as the Manager of Metis Relations & Grants.
As the Manager of Metis Relations & Grants, you will play a pivotal role in managing key relationships and grant programs within the Ministry of Indigenous Relations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing Relationship Agreements
- Providing Strategic Advice
- Overseeing Grant Management
- Providing Leadership of up to 7 Staff
- Supporting Leadership and Operational Planning
In this role, you will be faced with complex challenges that require strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage limited resources, and expertise in navigating governmental processes. You will be responsible for ensuring that decisions align with relevant legislation and governmental messaging while supporting the diverse needs of Indigenous communities, particularly Métis communities, in Alberta.
While your work with relationship agreements will be focused on Métis communities, you will oversee the delivery of grants that include employment, training, and capacity building with First Nations, Métis, and urban Indigenous communities/organizations.

Qualifications
Required: A University degree in the field of Native Studies, Social Sciences, Social Work, Community Development, Political Sciences, Business or Human Services or related field of studies with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience (i.e. working for or with an Indigenous community/organization and having supervisory experience), or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Experience in the following will be considered as assets:
- Building, maintaining, and navigating relationships involving internal and external stakeholders.
- Preference will be given to those with experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations.
- Administering, revising, and monitoring grant programs to ensure compliance with governmental policies.
- Exercising political acumen and making recommendations to leadership, particularly in developing briefing packages.
- Ability to organize multiple responsibilities in a diverse environment and across multiple subject matters while managing time effectively.
