Role Responsibilities

North Zone Disability Services is looking for a leader with a passion for developing innovative solutions for challenging situations, building strong working relationships, providing quality services, and engaging staff teams.

Reporting to the Director, this position oversees a comprehensive system of residential supports for adult individuals with multiple and complex disabilities in addition to children with multifaceted needs. The role supports staff teams at multiple work locations to deliver services in collaboration with individuals, guardians, and trustees.

Effective stakeholder engagement is critical to success in the role and partnerships within the Government of Alberta will support positive outcomes for residents. 

This position is responsible for change management strategies and alignment with the Alberta Public Service People Strategy. This leader will champion inclusion and celebrate the diversity within worksites.  

 

The incumbent must have a broad knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and standards to interpret and apply within service delivery. Examples include The Adult Guardianship and Trustee Act, the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Services Act, The Protection for Persons in Care Act, The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, The Continuing Care Act – Accommodation Standards: Supportive Living Accommodation, The Occupational Health and Safety Act, The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Collective Agreement.

Qualifications

University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by three years related experience and two years of related supervisor experience.

-    Extensive practical knowledge of the disability field and sector
-    Considerable experience in dealing with a broad range of stakeholders (agencies, staff, families, individuals, provincial colleagues, Ministry staff)
-    Supervisory and human relation skills and experience
-    Knowledge of Project Management
-    Effective communications skills (written, verbal, non-verbal) and interpersonal skills
-    Knowledge of all aspects of core business and strategic planning for the future
-    Demonstrated knowledge and ability in problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and mediation skills.

Notes

Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly. 

This position is based in Edmonton and will support operations in Calgary.

A valid Driver’s license, the ability to travel within Alberta and flexibility within the work schedule are requirements for the role.
