The Energy Operation division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans.  In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.

The Oil Royalty Assessment Team is responsible for the accurate and timely calculation, collection, and settlement of conventional crude oil royalty volumes for the Province of Alberta. The team is also responsible for the calculation and administration of C* for conventional oil, natural gas, and non project oil sands wells.

Role Responsibilities

To support our efforts in making a difference for Albertans, the Royalty Operations Branch is looking for a new leader to join our management team.

As the Oil Royalty Assessment manager, you will report to the Director of Oil Royalty Operations and will be responsible for all aspects of the collection of oil royalty for the Province of Alberta. You will have the opportunity to collaborate effectively with the Alberta oil and gas industry, the Alberta Energy Regulator, and the Alberta Petroleum and Marketing Commission to ensure significant government revenue is collected accurately and in a timely manner. You will also work closely with other teams in Energy and Minerals to develop and implement strategic policies governing conventional oil and natural gas royalties in the best interest of Albertans.  

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the calculation, delivery, collection, and settlement of conventional oil royalty
  • Provide leadership and direction to the calculation and administration of C* for the department.
  • lead the Conventional Oil Royalty Assurance team.

Qualifications

Minimum University Degree in a related field plus fours years of related experience is required.

Equivalencies may be considered. Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:  

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


The following will be considered assets:

  • Knowledge of government administration, policy and process.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of well data, oil and gas production accounting, and principles associated with oil and gas industry activities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and to collaborate strategically with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience developing public policy options and providing strategic policy advice to senior officials; 
  • Supervision and leadership experience.

Hours of Work:

  • 36.25 hours per week (full time) Monday to Friday.


Term of Employment:

  • This is a full-time temporary position until April 15, 2026.
